Week 5 Market Check: Wide Receivers

Everyday we will post a Market Check, which is a summary of our research on a different position for the week.

This is not the end of our advice for the week.  At the end of the week, we’ll make our picks at each position.  Some of the picks will not be discussed in the Market Check.

BULL MARKET

Players we believe will out-perform their salary for the week. These guys will give you the most bang for your buck when you are building lineups.

With WR’s like Riley Cooper and Miles Austin running by the Redskins defense last week, I’m not sure there is any way Washington’s defensive coordinator Joe Berry can slow down Julio this week. After an off week last week, look for Julio to get back on his record setting pace vs one of the worst secondaries in the NFL.

The Eagles finally got the pass game going against the Redskins last week. They welcome another horrible pass defense this week. Because the Saints run D is pretty stout, look for the offense to be funneled to the passing game. Matthews will get a steady diet of Saints nickel defenders Kenny Vaccarro or Swann (who is pictured above) neither is good enough to handle the Eagles physical slot . In what Vegas projects as the highest scoring matchup of the week, look for Matthews to lead the Eagles in targets and production on offense.

Here’s a lower salary sleep for the week. As you read in my DST MarketCheck, the Chiefs will bounce back this week but I think the Bears will attack slot CB Ron Parker this week. Royal has been getting healthier and heating up….inches away from a 2 TD day last week. After having a very rough transition from safety to slot corner last week, I expect offensive coordinator Adam Gase to attack new nickel corner Ron Parker like the Bengals did.

BEAR MARKET

There’s no superstars on the Jaguars defense, but this is a very underrated unit. Gus Bradley runs a very aggressive defense that forces his secondary to excel in man to man situations. The young DB’s have gotten better and better each week. And I know it was Hasselbeck under center, but they still held Hilton and Moncrief in check, despite many island (1 on 1) situations. I expect the Bucs game plan to center around Mike Evans this week, but I think Winston struggles with the different blitzes and hurts the production of the Bucs stud WR’s.

I will most likely stay away from Amari Cooper this week too. Although he has proven he is already one of the toughest one on matchups in the league and could get the elite TAlib on a couple routes. However, Denver has a beastly pass rush and lockdown corners to boot. Even the above nickel corner Brandon Roby is playing at a high level for Denver. This secondary will make it tough for the older/injury riddled Crabtree to win his man to man matchups….I’m anticipating a quiet day from the former Red Raider.
