Week 4 Market Check: Running Backs

Everyday we will post a Market Check, which is a summary of our research on a different position for the week.

This is not the end of our advice for the week.  At the end of the week, we’ll make our picks at each position.  Some of the picks will not be discussed in the Market Check.

BULL MARKET

Players we believe will out-perform their salary for the week. These guys will give you the most bang for your buck when you are building lineups.

If Rex Ryan and Greg Roman sat down to create a running back on Madden… Karlos Williams is exactly what they would create. At 6’1 and 250 LBS, Williams is a physical specimen who ran a 4.8 forty at the combine. Roman loves him some physical backs, and Rex likes a ball control offense, so this seems like a match made in heaven even when McCoy returns. Roman will continue to be a mad scientist in the run game, and with 3 TD’s last week through the air, Tyrod Taylor is proving his arm is good enough to make teams respect him as a thrower. This makes the Bills offense perfectly balanced and will keep opponents from committing 8 in the box too often. Williams arrow is sky high and he could keep Mccoy on the bench for a while after a breakout performance this week. Draft him everywhere this week! Every – single – lineup.

Bills establish a lead and then its Smash City for the mauling Bills O

Lots of negative narrative out there on Randle, despite having a breakout game Sunday. I’m gonna block the chatter and go with what my eyes are telling me. And until we actually, physically see Christine Michael (lots of rumors about him getting a shot this week) take reps, CMike is still a mythical fantasy creature that will never exist. Anyway, In the absence of Romo, the workload for the trio of backs is sure to increase because the Cowboys will establish the run early and try to play keep away from opponents, and do their best to prevent Weeden from facing too many 3rd and long situations. So increased workload is a plus to Randle no matter what…and behind that absolutely dominate O-line those types of breakaway runs are possible on every carry. I also think after a few very impressive runs last week from Randle ….Run DMC sees slightly less work. Arrow up, hush the critics.

Say what you want, it’s an impressive run….and as the #1 back behind that OL I like the chances of these big runs to continue

I get it, this is a very unsexy pick. Even I don’t feel the of upside, but I am going to include Yeldon in a lot my lineups because there is more to this guy than what the stats show. Coming off the Dolphins win, where he was extremely impressive in his cuts and catching the ball out of the backfield, I thought Yeldon was poised for a breakout game. Obviously game glow in a blowout loss to the Patriots prevented that. However, in a must win game for a young team – showing signs of growth, their best shot to steal a victory vs. the Colts is to establish the run. Yeldon is one of the few backs in the league who is not subject to RBBC (and I don’t think a healthy Gerhart threatens that) Based on sheer volume alone, Yeldon is a safe bet to meet value…and a breakout game for him is near. Count me in for both cash game lineups (load up on top notch WR) or tournament lineups. I love Yeldon this week.

Yeldon still looking for his first career TD after this one got called back….its coming this week!
BEAR MARKET

Players we don’t believe will perform up to their salaries.  We think you can find better value elsewhere.

Are we over the 2015 version of the Doug Martin honeymoon phase yet??? Good, I’m glad we got that out of our system for this season. Only this year, I don’t think it’s as much about Doug’s talent as it is his O-line and the game flows he will face each week. Martin has passed the eye test, looking like his quick and elusive old self, however his O-line is atrocious and doesn’t give him much to work with. And for the remainder of the season the Bucs will likely be trailing, which means passing back Charles Sims will start to get more touches than Martin. Throw Sims on your fantasy radar, and toss Martin overboard. See you guys for the Doug Martin preseason hype train 2016 edition.

Plays like these by Charles Sims will cut into Doug Martin’s usage

Welp , J Stew finally got his chance to be the lead back and he shat his chubby trousers. Adjectives that come to mind when watching him Run….fat, slow, old, terrible, *fart noise*. So that pretty much sums it up, the opportunity is there and I expect Cameron Artis-Payne to start to slowly phase Jstew out as the season rolls on, until then, Newton and Olsen are the fantasy studs on this team.

No more explosion like we saw out of J stew to close out 2014 season….sadly, it may be time to send him to the fantasy #GlueFactory

Going out on a limb and telling you not to take AP this week. I’ve been killing it with low end, pass catching backs (Woodhead, Sproles, Lewis) this season and a lot of the top RB have decimated lineups in DFS. Outside of week 1, AP has been what we expected but I think the Broncos will slow him down. They have the defensive backs to match up on the below average Viking WR’s 1 on 1 and they can load the box to stop AP. Wade Phillips will dare Teddy to throw and leave no holes to let AP get loose. For his large price tag, this is a spot where AP could struggle to meet his value.
