Everyday we will post a Market Check, which is a summary of our research on a different position for the week.
This is not the end of our advice for the week. At the end of the week, we’ll make our picks at each position. Some of the picks will not be discussed in the Market Check.

BULL MARKET
Players we believe will out-perform their salary for the week. These guys will give you the most bang for your buck when you are building lineups.
I could have picked any Green Bay WR this week vs. the 49ers and one of the worst secondaries in the NFL. The 9ers are currently giving up the 4th fantasy most points to WR’s, so A Rod and the mostly second string WR’s are set to have a field day. Specifically Cobb, who predominantly plays in the slot….keep in mind the slot is where Larry Fitzgerald posted a monster 9/135/2 line last week vs the 9ers. Already down Jordy, Adams will likely miss this week too….which means Cobb will see even more work. Expect around 10 targets and at least 1 score. Cobb is a cash game staple for me.
Fitz doing work in the slot….like Cobb will do Sunday vs. 49ers
Amari’s stock continues to rise, after his second straight week of embarrassing another good corner, this week it was Cleveland’s Joe Haden. Cooper is in what I would consider a fantasy “perfect storm” for a WR: He is the #1 target in a pass happy offense, with a gun slinging and accurate young QB, and his team will either be trailing or not good enough to put people away (allowing Cleveland to come back) so they will constantly be throwing. In Daily fantasy he is targeted so heavily that his floor will always be high that you can draft him with confidence in all contests knowing that he also possesses the potential for a breakout game against any opponent.
Amari burning another elite CB – Joe Haden
I gave you two studs, how about a sleeper for larger tournaments….Devin Smith’s first start will not go down as impressive in the statline- 3 rec. for 39 yards. But a deeper look at the stats, and looking at the film, Smith is poised to breakout soon. He didn’t miss a beat from college….he looked like his quick, explosive self running by corners, but more impressive were his crisp underneath routes. Fitzpatrick targeted him 9 times….with 5 targets going over 20+ yards. Fitz was slightly off, but going forward I love the thought of a Gun slinging QB and a deep ball specialist. Even with Decker’s return, Smith’s arrow points straight up and could explode as soon as this week. At his bare minimum salary, he is definitely worth the potential in a couple of tournament lineups!
BEAR MARKET
Players we don’t believe will perform up to their salaries. We think you can find better value elsewhere.
This was a layup, but after being highly touted all offseason, Johnson has depressed fantasy players everywhere. As I touched on last week, Minnesota’s recipe for success runs through Adrian Peterson and all other fantasy options are doomed for failure. The Vikings have a really good defense, and they want to have a ball control offense that doesn’t allow the young Teddy to screw it up. Not to mention, the Vikings play the Broncos this week, which means both Johnson and Wallace will get swallowed up by Talib and Harris.
First off, it will be hard for me to start anyone against the Jets defense this year. The secondary is elite and deep, shutting down Jordan Matthews last week as well. Both of Rishard Matthews’ TD’s came in the second half of a blowout when Rex had already called off the dogs, and one in which the DB fell down. Also, Devante Parker continues to get more and more reps and will soon step in and take Matthew’s role in this offense. Jets will shut down Matthews this week, don’t drink the Kool-Aid.
With such a young offense, Allen Robinson will continue to have up and down weeks. Consider this one to be a down because ARob visits Vontae Island against the Colts. You won’t see me testing Vontae with any WR plays as the season goes on….stay away from Robinson…..but Hurns/ Lee may be a sneaky good play against the rest of the Colts dud CB’s.
It’s not easy to produce on Vontae
So – painful – to – write. But here’s the logic…..Brown will still offer you a very high ceiling every single week, with the way Arians airs it out he could go for 2 long TD’s every week, that hasn’t changed. However, the high usage – target hog roll that I had hoped would go to Brown has clearly went to Fitzgerald; therefore, Brown now offers a very low floor each week and could potentially be a lineup “landmine” each week as well. The return of Michael Floyd also hurts Brown’s projections as well….. Floyd was targeted on red zone fades on back to back plays Sunday. Which means Brown is the third option in the red zone, where most WR’s make their fantasy money. Sucks but Brown is now a very risky “Boom or Bust” pick each week.
Back to back Red zone fade balls to Floyd, will hurt John Brown chances in RZ.
